Rock Bottom

When someone hits rock bottom, they reach a point in life where things could not get any worse.  It is to reach the lowest possible level or be in the worst possible situation.

Examples: The president's opinion poll ratings have hit rock bottom  / I'd never felt so depressed in my life - I was at rock bottom

Did you know...?  This expression comes from the fact that when you throw a rock into a river it sinks to the very bottom.
