App Review – Speak English like an American

Speak English like an American App

This is a nice, interactive application for learning natural American English.  The App consists of 25 lessons, each containing a typical everyday scenario with a written and spoken dialogue between two people. I found the spoken voice to be very clear, at a good pace and with an easy-to-understand American accent. Throughout the text there are useful idioms and expressions which you can click on to get a definition.

Another nice feature is that you can record your own voice reading the dialogue and play it back afterwards. This helps English learners to adjust their pronunciation to try to match the pronunciation of the speaker.  Each lesson also contains an idiom/expression list with definitions and examples, as well as an interactive quiz. Finally, the App comes with a glossary which contains all the new terms and expressions presented throughout the 25 lessons.  The thing I like most about this application is that it teaches 'real-life English', as opposed to 'textbook English', and it is therefore particularly useful for individuals who would like to live and work in an English-speaking country.
