Gender Roles

This is the preparation material for an English conversation lesson about Gender Roles.

Gender is a word commonly used for a person's sex (male or female). When people use the word gender in this way, it is often because sex has many other meanings, making it easy to misunderstand.  But there is a difference between 'sex' and 'gender'.  The word 'sex' describes someone's body. It says whether someone is physically male or female, while the word 'gender' describes someone's personality or character. It says if someone feels or acts more like a female (feminine) or more like a male (masculine).

Beauty

This is the preparation material for an English conversation lesson about beauty and physical attractiveness.

Beauty is a characteristic of a person, animal, place, object, or idea that provides a perceptual experience of pleasure or satisfaction.  Something is beautiful if it is nice to look at it, hear it, feel it, taste it, smell it or think about it. Historically, paintings show a wide range of different standards for beauty. However, humans who are relatively young, with smooth skin, well-proportioned bodies, and regular features, have traditionally been considered the most beautiful throughout history.  read more
